West Coast Pages was an educational resource brand that honoured the power of storytelling in education.
With the aim of increasing the inclusion of literature by authors of the global majority in educational spaces, I created novel studies & other educational resources for English Language Arts using Adobe InDesign, Procreate & Apple Suite authoring tools.
I also ran branded social media accounts (Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok) collaborating with local publishers, and designed www.westcoastpages.com using Squarespace to host links to the store, blog content, book reviews & testimonials.

My primary resource was novel studies requiring the purchase of or access to Indigenous authored novels. These resources provided a teacher’s guide, relevant vocabulary tasks, reading journals, discussion questions, as well as creative and written final project options to differentiate needs and engage learners. The main goal of these units is to facilitate engagement with the novel and critical reflection on themes of decolonization and identity.

  • Truth & Reconciliation Scavenger Hunt - TRC Calls to Action

    The kids liked this and learned a lot. It was a great way of breaking down the TRC document which is too big and unweildly for grade 9s on its own. A bit of a scramble for me to update the key, as these things change so fast (ie - how many calls to action have been implemented). I broke mine into groups and then they presented their answers to each other. I'll definitely use this again.

  • The Marrow Thieves - Novel Study

    As I have taught this novel many times since it was published and the world around us has become more and more like the dystopia in the text, I wanted something new that goes beyond mere recall. The questions are sensitive and ask students to draw deeper connections to the text. I really appreciate this!
